“But God has chosen the foolish
things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the
weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;”
I Corinthians 1:27 (Emphasis Added)
God has done some amazing
things over the past two years and I am excited to tell our story little by
little as a testimony to God’s grace in our lives. However, today is a very important day. Today is the first blog entry under our new
name.
Mōra: Greek 3474 μωρὰ (mōra)
meaning foolishness or foolish things.
It is a variation of the word móros (μωρός) which is where we get the
word ‘moron’. This phrase caught my
heart as I studied it.
There have been so many times
in our journey where I didn’t feel good enough, smart enough, photographic
enough, or qualified to do what God has called me to do. But, as I studied 1 Corinthians 1:18 - 31
further, the word ‘foolishness’ just stuck with me. So, I started digging deeper. This particular variation of the word doesn’t
mean useless moron like I had originally assumed. Yes, God will still use morons to accomplish
His purposes. Baalam’s donkey is a prime
example of that. In fact, one of my
favorite stories in the Old Testament is found in the book of Judges. Ehud was a left handed man which made him
unfit for joining the army but God called him to the sword! Even Gideon admitted he was the lowest person
in the lowest house of the lowest tribe!
The good news is God loves us because we have nothing special to offer
except a willing heart.
Mōra means childish. It denotes the foolishness or simplicity of a
child. It’s the immaturity that causes
children to act without thinking. A few
years ago, I was teaching a Bible study about the Holy Spirit and what it means
to operate in the Gifts of the Spirit.
One of the lessons I wanted people to understand is that we will get
messy when it comes to learning how to operate in the Gifts of the Spirit. Look at the first church in the New
Testament. There wasn’t a handbook for
all of this stuff. They prayed a lot and
let The Holy Spirit guide them on what to do.
Sometimes it was messy but God always got the glory in it. He gave me an idea of how to exemplify
that. We made a video (I’ll post the
link below) called “Sandwich-makers”. I
asked my friends to help me by sending me videos of their kids making a peanut
butter sandwich. The only rule is that
the parents could not help them. They
were only allowed to give them the tools and supplies necessary to do the job. As you can imagine, it was what I call a “glorious
mess”. It was sweet and innocent. It was fun and it proved a point. God loves our “glorious messes”. In the end, there was all the necessary
things that constitute a sandwich and each kid was so proud of their accomplishment. Each time after that, they got better and
better at making sandwiches until now, my son and his friends all know how to
make a sandwich without having to take a bath afterwards.
Life is messy but God will use
our foolishness for His Glory. I have
signed my letters that way for a long time, based on verse 31. It says, “that, as it is written, “He who
glories, let him glory in the Lord.” (1 Cor. 1:31)
God gave us our name and I love
that it is a reminder that He is our Father and we are His children. He loves us and loves all that we do for
Him. The Gospel is so simple and I am so
honored to be able to share it and love the people that God loves.
God bless you as you seek and
serve Him!
